Hello Humans and Dogs alike,
My name is Juno. For those of you that don’t know what that is from, you should read up on your mythology, or your Assassins Creed. Juno was the was the Roman name for Hera, otherwise known as the wife of Zeus. She is the protector of women and marriage. She is a goddess, like my new mommy thinks I am. Today, my family went to an animal shelter in an attempt to get a dog that they had picked out. Luckily for him, (and me), someone else got there before them. Now my momma was heartbroken at first, because she had her heart set on this dog. However, one of her family members advised her to go the Humane Society up the road. They did, and while walking back through the cages, I saw them, and decided to adopt her. When she saw how sweet I was, and how I immediately started to lick her hand to tell her that she was mine. My new owner is a huge softy, and I knew right then that she would not leave without me. That was when they decided to adopt me at The Humane Society of Calvert County.
Now, you might be wondering, why would anyone want a dog with a leg that would need to be amputated? Well, in all honesty, my momma has the biggest soft spot for the outcasts, and for those of us who are special in our own way. She told me that she had a dog before me that she loved with all of her heart that had diabetes and passed away from it. It made her cry to think about, but I was there to comfort her. She went to talk to my adoption handler, who informed her that I was going in tomorrow for my evaluation, to determine exactly what to do with my leg. Her family is trying to see if we can do anything to save it, but because it was fractured very bad and did not heal correctly, they are not entirely sure. I am optimistic that I will not let this slow me down. After talking to them, my new owner assured me that she had to run home to get the other dog I would live near. His name is Curly (momma calls him the Curlz) but he has short straight hair. They said he was named that because he barks like Curly from the Three Stooges. She promised to come right back with him and she did! About an hour later (that’s how long she told me it took), I saw her car come down the dirt road and sure enough, there was my new big brother in the back seat. HE WAS HUGE. Most of the other dogs at the shelter were smaller, but he is a purebred pointer made for dog shows. I just wanted to play and play with him, but my momma and the amazing people at the Humane Society were worried about my leg. They let us get to know each other and while he seemed a little timid, I was sure he would warm up to me.
They told momma that she could not take me yet, because of my vet appointments and such, but momma said she would visit as soon as she could. The nice people also promised to keep momma updated on my condition, and momma said that she was going to go home to prepare my bed. Now I am just waiting until my vet gives me the go ahead to go home. Me and my momma decided that we would share our journey together with you, because we want to raise awareness that dogs at the shelters (especially the special ones like me) need good homes too. Please share with people you know.

Nice to meet you Juno!! And welcome to your new forever home…and your extended family at the tripawd community!
Your post was an absolute delight to read! You explained how you picked your human and your brother Curly so vividly!! And I LOVE the Three Stooges!!
As you already know Juno, sooooo o many dogs end of going the route of amputation due to failed broken leg repairs. We certainly understand why humans want to try and repair the leg first, but often times amputation ends up being the best solution! You’re probably already used to walking on three legs anyway!
Looking forward to your next splendidly written update AND photos! We MUST have photos!
Sending you lots of love and hugs. You hit the lottery with this human Juno…but yoj already know that!
Yes, this is meant to be for sure!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
